Kolkata traffic rule breakers may get e-challans on phones

Kolkata, Aug 13 (IANS): Traffic rule breakers may soon get their fine slip on mobile phones and have the option to pay on-the-spot with Kolkata Traffic Police planning to introduce a software that can be integrated with cell phones to churn out e-challans.

"We are talking with various agencies ... if we can use technology to generate challans. It will enable payment of challans through debit or credit cards on the spot," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dilip Adak told IANS.

The new technology, when brought into effect, will do away with paper challans or printouts.

Challans for violating traffic rules will come up on the violator's mobile phone and he or she will have the option to pay via debit or credit card, he said.

"The option to make online payment is already available on our website. The new method will be faster as violators can pay on-the-spot," added Adak.
