Govt admits files are missing in coalgate scam

Kanpur, Aug 17 (PTI): In a new twist, Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal today admitted that some files related to the coal block allocation scam are missing, remarks that drew attack from opposition parties.

"It is true that some files from 1993 to 2004 are missing. Attempts are on, we are in touch with CMPDIL, Ministry of Steel. If they have the files, they should make it available," he said.

A committee headed by an Additional Secretary of the ministry is inquiring into how the files have gone missing. It will also coordinate with other government departments for tracing their copies of the missing files, Jaiswal said.

When asked how many files are missing, the Coal Minister said that he does not have exact information about them and it could be 8-10 or more, while terming the issue of missing files as matter of concern.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on July 31, had said that at least five crucial files related to allotment of coal blocks during 2006-09 have not been received by it despite providing specific details.

CBI has so far registered 13 cases related to block allotments during 2006-09 for alleged misrepresentation of facts by the beneficiaries while applying for the blocks.

In June, the Coal Ministry had constituted an Inter-ministerial panel to look into the issue of missing files. The panel has so far held one meeting.

Some time back, the Coal Ministry had informed a Parliamentary committee that it is trying to locate lost and missing files on coal block allocation in the wake of Supreme Court saying the Centre for not aiding CBI with documents in its probe.

Commenting on the development, senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said that his party will strongly raise the issue of "missing files" in Parliament next week and seek a reply from the Prime Minister.

"There are reports that coal block allocation files have gone missing. We will raise it strongly in Parliament on Monday. In an era of digitisation, how can you say that files are missing? The Prime Minister will have to reply," he said in Delhi.

BJP Spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said that right from day one, the Government has been trying to hide the facts from the CBI enquiry and "this is with the sole intention to protect the Prime Minister because he was the Coal Minister.

And they are into a massive cover up. That is why they say that some files are missing or misplaced."

He further said that all these are alibis and the government does not want to share information with the CBI.

"That is why we will follow it up and we are hopeful that in the next hearing the Supreme Court also will-because thousands of files have not been handed over to CBI yet, so the enquiry would never be completed," he added.

I read Joseph F. Gonsalves Comments. Good sense. One comment appreciably writes:
    1) So many commentators blaming about corruption. Are you not paying under the table to approve your house plan?
    2) Are you not paying under the table black and white before registering your apartment?
3)How many have BPL cards above stipulated income limit.
    4) Go to taluk office the real estate people have made a habit for government workers. They, the real estate people give money and accomplish their work very speedily. Those don't pay the money go there, come tomorrow, and the work is still lingering.
    5) I am not blaming the politicians. It is the citizens who are daily involved in corruption.
AND THE SAME CITIZENS ARE BLAMING THE POLITICIANS.

OVER ALL, EVERY CITIZEN ARE INVOLVED IN ONE OR THE OTHER CORRUPTION EXCEPT A VERY MINUTE CITIZENS LIVE UP-TO THEIR LEVEL STATUS W/O CORRUPTION.

Blindly dont follow a single party.... rather support what is right.

people of karnataka made a right decision by supporting congress in the state to get rid of yeddy.. reddy.. chaddy.

But in the centre only hope is BJP to put an end to corrupt congress.. BJP deserves a chance.... all d very best to NaMo.

READ THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD.
For the defense of the sovereignty and integrity of the nation there was bloodshed.
This includes partition of India and India Pakistan wars.
You remember it or not, IT IS EX-PRIME MINISTER ATEL BEHARI VAJPAYEE SUGGESTED TO INDIRAJI TO USE THE MILITARY FOR THE PURPOSE OF SIKHS KHALISTAN.
Gujarat and Orissa human killings were on communal grounds and not for the sovereignty and integrity of Indian nation.

During whose tenure as Government at the centre, all these files got lost\robbed\missing\vanished or as some suggested, burnt.
Very irresponsible Govt. that time or may be very involved too. As such many of the files missing.
Now blaming others is useless. Nothing has been proved yet. Until that time - tug of war time.
