Beltangady, Feb 7: Aladangady gram panchayat member Prabhakar Devadiga (35), son of Pijina Devadiga of Nadumane here was killed in an accident at Keddu near Aladangady on Monday February 6 afternoon.

On Monday afternoon, Prabhakar on his way to Keddu on his rickshaw when a tempo coming from Dharmasthala hit his auto rickshaw from behind.  At this point Prabhakar lost control over his vehicle and hit a bicycle rider. Further, the auto rickshaw rammed into a tree.  Foreseeing the danger, Prabhakar stretched himself out from the auto rickshaw, but rammed into the tree straightaway and was hurt on his chest.

He died on the spot. In the meantime, the bicycle rider too has been injured and is admitted to the government hospital here. The tempo was on its way to Yellapur in Uttara Kannada district carrying the pilgrims who had come to visit Dharmasthala.

Prabhakar Devadiga was the member of Aladangady gram panchayat and was an active member of the local BJP and Bajrangdal units. He was an auto rickshaw driver by profession.

He is survived by wife and 2 daughters.  The Beltangady police have registered a case in this regard.
