Ghana to play Libya in friendly

Accra, Aug 21 (IANS): Ghana has selected 22 home-based players into the 'Black Stars' team to begin camping Wednesday in Obuasi for their football international friendly against Libya Aug 30.

Ghana will play Libya to be played in Tunisia, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said Tuesday, reports Xinhua.

Ghana booked a place at the 2014 Championship for African Nations (CHAN) in South Africa following the withdrawal of Benin from the competition.

Ghana was scheduled to battle Benin last July in a two-leg qualifier to represent the Zone.

The qualifiers are played on regional basis with the composition of the finalists as follows: two each from North Zone and West A Zone; and three each from West B Zone, Central Zone, Central East; and South Zone (including hosts South Africa).

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) designed the CHAN competition for only home-based players in the domestic leagues of its member-countries.

The Democratic Republic of Congo, who beat Ghana 2-0 in the final in March 2009, won the maiden edition of the competition.
