Mangalore: Tiger dance was a common feature during the Mahanavami - Marnami, colloquially - in the olden times. Now, it is commonly seen during any festival.

The dance needs a lot of skill also. Some daring and dangerous stunts are displayed by the artists.

Prominent among them are gripping a live sheep with one's teeth and throwing it away, bending over and opening the beer bottle crown with one's teeth and the like.

The most stunning is the one with somersaults in the air, which requires a lot of practice and also involves high risk.

Here a group of tiger dancers performs this dangerous stunt.

A minor error of judgement can result in the artist's coming crashing to the ground, head-on. It can be noticed here that the ground is made of interlock cement bricks.
