Udupi, Aug 23: Bhujanga Shetty, former Zilla Panchayath president, demanded that the gram panchayath be authorized to provide a confirmation certificate to the land beyond the jurisdiction of Urban Development Authority for land conversions, selling, and purchasing.

Shetty said that the majority land holdings in the district are small. “In such a backdrop, people are totally confused with the  procedures during conversion, purchase, and selling of land under CRZ norms which has made it complicated. The mandatory requirement of NOC from Urban Development Authority should be cancelled at the earliest,” he added.

He further demanded that houses in 5 to 10 cents of land should be exempted from the land conversion rule and said that single layouts should be permitted within CMC limits.

“A Tahsildar should be the authority to approve the conversion of up to half acre of land granted through the land reform tribunal. The Tahsildar should also be empowered to amend the 9-11 section to avoid expenses incurred to set right the mistakes in RTC done by the revenue department officials by appealing in Assistant Commissioner’s court,” demanded Shetty.
