Solicitor general summoned on airlines' fare hike

Lucknow, Aug 24 (IANS): The Allahabad High Court's Lucknow bench Saturday asked Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran to appear before it Sep 3 to explain the arbitrary fare hike by private airlines.

A bench of Justices Uma Nath Singh and Anil Kumar also refused to give a later date as urged by counsel for the central government and ordered Parasaran to be present with the facts.

In the petition filed April 2011, social activist Nutan Thakur had sought strong action against private airlines and Air India for uncontrolled increase in fares during festivals, among others, and for fixing fares like other means of public transport, to be changed only after a prescribed process.
