Washington, Aug 29 (IANS): Unemployment rates in the US were lower in July compared to a year earlier in 320 out of the 372 metropolitan areas in the country, the Labor Department said.
Unemployment rates were higher in July than a year earlier in 38 large cities, and unchanged in 14 large cities, Xinhua reported.
Of the 49 metropolitan areas with a population of one million or more, Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario in California had the highest unemployment rate in July at 11 percent, followed by Detroit-Warren-Livonia in Michigan with an unemployment rate at 10.4 percent.
Nationally, the unemployment rate edged down to 7.4 percent in July from 7.6 percent in June, reaching its lowest level since December 2008.
