Mangalore Feb 12 [06.00pm] : A moment of jubilation for the Harry’s Silver Band and thousands of its well-wishers was its centenary celebration on Sunday. The centenary year celebrations took off with a colourful procession.
Curious onlookers saw the spectacular procession which started from Lorsam’s original house (near Capuchin Friary) and reached the venue, accompanied by colourful tableaux. What was unique in the procession was the display of the coastal specialties-the roce and wedding, Monti Fest (celebration of the feast of Nativity), natalancho khell (Christmas celebrations), vagancho naach (tiger dance), Yakshagana Bayalata and Talim (acrobatics).
The procession accompanied by several brass bands and dance troupes passed through the Jail road reaching the MG Road and progressed to Bijai church hall through the KSRTC bus stop road and the Bijai circle.
Earlier in the morning, Mass was celebrated at St Francis Xavier’s Church Bijai.
