Riyadh, Sep 1 (IANS): More than 5.3 million illegal workers in Saudi Arabia have corrected their status during the past five months, a media report said Sunday.
Nearly 1.5 million of these workers changed their sponsors, 1.3 million changed their jobs and 2.5 million renewed their work permits, Xinhua cited the Al Hayat newspaper as saying.
Abdullah Abuthnain, deputy minister of inspections and developing work condition, said foreign workers can now register their change of job free of charge via the ministry's online services instead of visiting its office.
The labour ministry plans to launch a crackdown against illegal workers when a seven-month amnesty ends Nov 3.
