Karkala, Feb 14: It was the student community that took the lead voicing their support to encounter specialist Mumbai sub-inspector Daya Nayak. Students of Radha Nayak Government High School, Yennehole, on Monday February 13 boycotted classes in protest against the ‘injustice’ meted out to Nayak.
A procession was also taken out in the Yennehole city where the students observed a hunger strike demanding government to intervene to ensure justice to Nayak. Some of the public burnt an effigy of journalist Ketan Tirodkar, on whose complaint in a Mumbai court, cases have been filed against Nayak.
Student representatives Kruthi Shetty and Atmiya Kadamba and School Development Committee president P Haji said the allegations leveled against Nayak were baseless.
Local leaders including zilla panchayat member Dr Santhosh Kumar Shetty, Nadimar Jayaraj, Jagannath Shetty, Dayananda Hegde, Y Hasanabba, Ganesh Nayak, Sunil Kumar Bhat, Jayapal Hegde, Shivakumar and hundreds of villagers participated in the protest march.
The twon wore a deserted look as the shops and commercial establishments remained closed.
