A one pound wedding in Britain

London, Sep 4 (IANS): A frugal bride and bridegroom in Britain opted to celebrate their wedding for just one pound (about $1.50).

For Georgina Porteous and Sid Innes' special day, their friends and family donated food for the reception and played the music -- and the wedding rings were made from antlers, the Daily Express reported Wednesday.

Innes, 39, a songwriter, made do with a suit that he bought years ago.

Porteous, 36, of Inverness, a city in the Scottish Highlands, said: "I don’t see the point in massive weddings. It takes away from what marriage is all about."

Apart from 70 pounds for marriage fees, their only expenditure for this Tuesday event was one pound on Porteous' vintage wedding gown.

However, the newlyweds have plans to spend more on their honeymoon in Berlin, Germany.
