Delhi woman held for forcing girl into prostitution

New Delhi, Sep 4 (IANS): A 35-year-old woman was arrested for forcing a 17-year-old girl into prostitution here after buying her for Rs.1 lakh, police said Wednesday.

Noori, a resident of Bangalore, was arrested Tuesday evening from G.B. Road, the capital's red light district.

"For years, Noori worked as a prostitute. But for eight years, she was running a prostitution racket in G.B. Road. She would buy teenaged girls and force them into prostitution," said a police officer.

Noori's name came to light after a minor girl was rescued by police from a brothel along with three women Aug 30.

The girl told police that Noori bought her for Rs.1 lakh from a person who brought her to Delhi on the pretext of providing her a job.

The other women were also brought on the same pretext.

"The minor came from Solapur in Maharashtra around two weeks ago. While two women were from Andhra Pradesh, one hailed from West Bengal," said the officer.

A hunt is now on to nab those who brought the women and sold them to Noori, the officer added.
