'Burqa' diktat by BJP for Modi rally raises eyebrows

Jaipur, Sep 10 (PTI): Narendra Modi's Jaipur rally today saw controversy over a purported direction by BJP asking Muslims to come dressed in skull caps and burqas, with critics questioning the motive behind the "dress code".

The BJP, however, claimed that the direction by its minority cell has been "misunderstood" and no distinction had been made on the basis of religion.

Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh asked if BJP was trying to enforce a "dress code" or playing "vote bank politics" by asking Muslims to attend its meetings wearing 'burqas' and skull caps.

"Whether it is a dress code or vote bank politics is a question which the media should ask the BJP," he said in a tweet.

The BJP claimed that the instruction was that any woman wearing burqa should not be stopped from entering the venue as, it alleged, was done at a Congress rally citing security reasons.

"People were allowed to attend the (BJP) rally in their traditional dresses whether women were wearing burqa or jeans or men had "topi, safa, pagri" as headgear did not matter," party spokesperson Jyoti Kiran told PTI.

Another spokesman Vimal Katiyar said, "BJP Minority Morcha state President Ameen Pathan had directed in his recent meeting on the eve of rally that any woman wearing burqa should not be stopped and allowed to enter the women's blocks at the rally venue.

"Same instructions were given for men wearing any headgear, topi, pagri, scarf. The entire subject was misunderstood and misinterpreted in media," he said, adding SMSes were sent to party workers right from booth level to invite people to the rally.

Scores of burqa-clad women attended the rally of Modi, who is believed to be days away from being named the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

Modi has been accusing Congress of following a policy of appeasement of Muslims and had even said it was wearing a "'burqa' of secularism".

Kiran said no separate sitting blocks were set up for any community in the concluding Suraj Sankalp Yatra rally addressed by Modi and party President Rajnath Singh.

"No distinction is made on the basis of minority or any other caste and creed. BJP does not discriminate on the baqsis of religion, caste or creed," she said.

"Of course women wearing burqa were comfortably sitting in the women's blocks without any discrimination," she said.

Katiyar alleged that during a public rally by Congress Muslim women with burqa were not allowed due to security reasons.

People of Karnataka are not "simple" nor "samples". They just do not care for any threats\intimidation\traumatization and harassment from people in power and vote in or out any Govt. that is not with the people of the State.
Where as in Gujarath it is just the opposite - With high handedness Govt. has made big section of the population poorer and traumatized\terrorised them along with the so called minorities and forcibly made to vote again and again the same Govt. Or else...

The gap between poor and rich has widened in the three\four terms of the Govt.
If Governor's appointed Lokayukta was installed, truth would have come out long time back.
The development in Gujarath has been hyped up. There are other States which have done better development than Gujarath. Then why BJP is only creating a hype on Gujarth's devlopment?

It is a tendency for many of the people to believe hyped up news and that is what happening about Gujarath too.

People are not the same when in the beginning they listened to BJP hindutva mantra. Now they know BJP in the guise of hindutva is conning them only to get votes.
Their "by hook or by crook" ways have been exposed every now and then. They have never cared for the masses. It is only their greed for power and their corrupt ways to benefit only their pockets.
In that bargain for power, they tend to fight each other, there is animosity between themselves. Such is the situation, even to appoint PM candidate, BJP's masters RSS had to convince Modi that they will be responsible for putting aside any dissent within the party for the pound of flesh RSS wants from him that he should be RSS's PUPPY DOG..!!
That goes to show there are various differences within the party itself for the seat of power and anytime a split may take place if they announce Modi as the PM Candidate.

What RSS wants from Modi is purely communal. People have shown their dislike earlier for these kind of ideoplogies and they will surely show them again their wish to remain secular.

Sampath Shetre, There is no such a thing as right person and right party. I was implying a general notion, a leader who is generally acceptable without causing division or apprehensions for minorities. Unfortunately, NaMo is one such person who by mere mention of his name sends apprehensions soaring in the minds of minoroties. He is one such person, today he actually says, Desh ko Congress se mukth kar do. Tomorrow with the same breath he may say or capable of saying, Bharat ko Muslim and Christians se mukth kar do. As I said in my earlier comment,India might loose its Unity in diversity culture and Morals.

Having said that, India is 80% Hindu country. No doubt. But basic culture that has held this country together is not political affiliations of communities. But rather this 80% or more Hindus are wedded to Unity in diversity culture, respect and love for all faiths. I salute this 80% and more Hindus who have held this country together, and not any one Leader of any one party.

    Shri Ganeshaya Nama..!

Feku's every lie is exposed and he is sinking in sh## taking BJP along with him. Instead of adopting crooked ways, apologize for the crime, accept all Indians irrespective of religion as one and prove that the party strives for the development and benefit of every Indian. If BJP follows this, I am sure Congress will be a history. But, unfortunately, BJP stands for crooked & wicked ways to fool Indians to gain power. Of Vajpayeejee it was often heard that he was a right man in a wrong party.Despite party and ideology difference he was capable of holding the the party and nation together. A salute to Vajpayeejee.
Time has turned a cycle and today we have a Wrong person in a wrong party.NaMo is divisive person within thier own party and divisive person across the country.
Of dress code,he reminds me of Raavan who came in Sadhu dress. He is certainly forceful, energetic, progressive. I love to hear his speeches, albeit with a pinch of salt. Its only outer glitzy packaging and nothing more. There is no depth nore profound conviction can I see in his speeches. Country will move on, even under a divisive person like NaMo. But I am afraid, India stands to lose its Unity in diversity culture and values. India stands at a dangerous crossroad, of choosing between a NaMo led government or a Corruption tainted Congress. Personally, I think, India would have been rejoicing if BJP had d Sushma Swaraj as PM candidate, whose patriotism and conviction is second to none. She is a dignified, well mannered mild personality rather than NaMo who appears dictatorial and domineering.

Nicely written but with this Modi frenzy having spread like wild fire through the cadres it is next to impossible to see anyone else but Modi being appointed as PM candidate of the BJP. Further, Rajnath Singh seems to have an undying affection for Modi and can be seen defending Modi in public more often than Modi has been defending himself. He has almost literally become Modi's advocate.

What to do, the situation seems hopeless kyon ki Modi ke supporters ko Modi ka nasha sar pe chhad gaya hai !

Only the votes of the minority are not sufficient to bring any political party to power in India. Everybody knows that, which is why it is obvious that all the majority do not vote only for the BJP which is why the Congress have been in power all these years even after the formation of the BJP.
So dont be under this false belief that all the 'majority' vote only for the BJP. Similarly, there may be a few from the minority who support the BJP eg. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Shahnawaz Hussain, Najma Heptullah, Asifa Khan etc..
India is an extremely diverse country where the 'majority' are made up of people of so many castes, languages, cultures, liberal minded, secular minded etc. who cannot be so easily polarised under the 'one religion' umbrella which the Modi camp appear to be trying very hard to do.
Remember also that the leaders from the Congress and many of its allies are also mostly from the 'majority' community and have their support from many of the 'majority' people too.
So dont be over confident about the 82% !

Now whats wrong in the statement?when MSM just fakes the news in a twisted version people like joseph gonzalves believe it as truth. It only shows that slave mentality still exists even after Brits left in 1947.

The need of the hour is India Needs a Stong Leader and NAMO fits the bill. Congress is in pwer for more then 60 years and the last ten years the congress has just sold the nation to dogs, with a dwindling economy and a sliding Rupee..as namko rightly pointed out we have a PM who is doctor of Economics but Indian Rupee is in a ventilator, and just Opposing BJP or NAMO doesnt do any good to the nation. So they will always play gimmicks with minorities as long as they have people like Muktar Abbas Naqvi and Shah Nawaz Husein in the party..

If bjp is budging towards secularism what is wrong in it?, its good for all of us, after all bjp is the principle opposition party in parliament. If the ruling party indulges in curruption and go against the will of the people one day or other opposition party will come to power. So if you want to criticize find a good reason.

why BJP needs to give explanation from all the corners for the incident happened in the the rally? Why the media is highlighting this issue only instead of analysing Modi's Speach.
Why Congress General Secretory pick up this incident and criticising the BJP ? CONCLUSION IS THAT NO ONE IS SINCERE.

Recently a group of Muslim ladies from a UP Village met Modi and tied RAKHI to him..

I wonder why these women keep themselves away from Rahul Gandhi...

What is wrong in asking?? Its marketing themselves and showing people that Muslims too support BJP. Congress is acting like, only they have the rights on minority vote.

See the confidence of BJP by saying that there is muslim support are there for Modi. If nobody showed up with burkha, it would have been big embarrassment for Modi & BJP.

To win election marketing is necessary.and it was not diktat,it was request to show unity in support.

It is not marketing but an act of desperation when one has to actually ask muslims to come in skull caps and burqas to attend the rally as it is a clear indication that the BJP and Modi absolutely do not have the confidence of getting the minority suppport/votes.

Just like everything else Pheku does is fake he can also ask his own die-hard supporters to wear skull caps and burqas to appear as minorities.

If Pheku supporters can use fake ids of muslim and christian names here and elsewhere to give a false impression that Pheku is being supported by all of the minorities they can do it with the dress as well.

Yes this is important for those blind corrupt party supportors who think that Muslims don't support Modi, atleast looking at skull caps and Burqa they will realize what is Modi Power.
Congis do not have problem of think its votebank politics when non muslim congi pudaris wear skull cap and attend uroos to eat naichur. At that time Diggi does not see vote bank politics but when same is worn in Modi rally he has problem.
Atleast one thing is proved that Muslims do attend Modi rally despite khangress's best attempt to keep them away from BJP.
