Mangalore, Feb 21:  Gamon India Private Limited has refused to resume the work of laying drinking water pipeline in Ulhas Nagar, under ADB funded KUIDFC project, after one of its engineers was allegedly slapped by the local corporator Abdul Rawoof, in November 2005.

In spite of filing a written petition in the rural police station seeking protection from Rawoof, Gamon India are upset with the cold behaviour of the police, and have stated that work would resume only when police protection is provided.

Attempts by KUIDFC to reconcile the warring groups have not been successful.

According to sources in Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), by quoting staff security as the reason, Gamon India is trying to avoid penalty which will be imposed on it, for not having completed the task of laying the pipeline within the stipulated period.
