New Delhi, Sep 13 (IANS): The four convicts in the Delhi gang rape Friday returned from court to jail and donned white kurta pyjamas, indicating they were no more undertrials.
According to the Tihar Jail practice, undertrials who are sentenced in a case get the formal prisoners' dress and shifted to sections in the prison meant for convicts.
Convicts Pawan Gupta, 19, and Vinay Sharma, 20, were lodged in jail number 7 while Mukesh, 26, and Akshay Thakur, 28, were sent to jail number 4.
"They have been lodged in the same cells in which they were earlier. Their jails may be changed if it is required later," an official of Tihar jail told IANS.
After getting the official white dress, the convicts would undergo a medical checkup, he said
Depending upon the medical report, a suitable work would be allotted to them for performance during imprisonment, he said.
The four men, who were convicted Tuesday, and were sentenced to death by a court in the brutal gang rape of a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern here in a moving bus Dec 16, 2012.
The trial court's decision to give them death penalty will now be sent to the Delhi High Court for endorsement and the process may take about a month, said the jail official.
