Colombian navy seizes 1.4 tonnes of cocaine

Bogota, Sep 15 (IANS): The Colombian navy announced Saturday that it seized 1.4 tonnes of cocaine from a ship at the Caribbean port of San Andres Island.

The cache was packed in cardboard boxes and hidden in salt inside a container, said the navy, adding that the drugs, whose street value was estimated at about $35 million, were apparently bound for the US, Xinhua reported.

The navy said that "timely information received by our network of allies" led to the search and seizure.

A person was arrested during the operation and would face justice, it added.
