Muzaffarnagar riots a big tragedy: PM

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 16 (IANS): Terming the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar a "big tragedy", Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, during a visit to the violence-hit Uttar Pradesh district along with Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and party vice president Rahul Gandhi Monday, called for punishing the guilty.

Manmohan Singh asked the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure safety and rehabilitation of the people who were displaced.

A grim faced Manmohan Singh spoke to officials as he walked through Bassi Kalan village and later Tawli amid tight security.

He told the people that he, along with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, had come to them in solidarity in their hour of crisis.

As many as 48 people were killed, over 100 injured and more than 43,000 rendered homeless in the communal clashes that singed the area since Sep 7. The army was called in to contain the situation.

The prime minister told reporters that he expected the security scenario to improve in the area so that the displaced people can return home.

"People behind such ghastly violence would be punished and all help extended to the UP government," the prime minister said.

While Manmohan Singh spoke to Divisional Commissioner Bhuvnesh Kumar and District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma, Sonia Gandhi mingled with women and sought to know the sequence of events that led to the rioting.

Rahul Gandhi spoke to the youth and assured them the Congress and the union government was with them.

He also asked the union Minister of State for Home Affairs R.P.N. Singh to take petitions from the people and address them.

Uttar Pradesh Governor B.L. Joshi and UP Health Minister Ahmed Hasan were present during the prime minister's visit.

People who met the prime minister and other leaders complained that the district administration and the state government did not extend to them the kind of support that should have been there.

NO DOUBT THE BJP AND IT'S ALLIES ARE COMMUNAL IN NATURE AND IN
PRINCIPLES.THEIR HINDUTWA NATIONALISM IS NOT ONLY SHOWING REAL HINDUISM IN NEGATIVE LIGHT BUT ALSO INSULTING TRUE HINDUS AND THEIR VALUES. THEREFORE, AUTHORS LIKE DR.GHOSH,ARE AGAINST HINDUTHVA IDEOLOGY.

NO DOUBT,OTHER PUEDO-SECULAR POLITICAL PARTIES ARE USING COMMUNAL PARTIES FOR THEIR VOTES RATHER THAN FOR PEOPLE'S WELL BEING.

NO DOUBT,SOWERS OF POISON IN THE NAME OF HINDUTHVA ARE UTTERLY DANGEROUS THAN THE SILENT, CORRUPT AND FALSE PROMISE POLITICIAN AS THE INDIAN HISTORY PROVES IT VERY WELL.VOTERS HAVE ONLY BAD OR WORST TO CHOOSE. IT'S BETTER TO CHOOSE THE BAD IN COMPARISON TO THE WORST. THEREFORE, AS A NATION BUT NOT AS A RELIGION, WE MUST FIRST FIGHT AGAINST WRONG NATIONALISM,COMMUNALISM,AND CORRUPTION.A LEADER MUST BE ONE WHO BUILDS ALL ASPECTS OF HUMANITY AND NOT THE ONE WHO DIVIDES TO GAIN POWER.

Please understand that when I write about these things I write with knowledge. I dont go just by media reports, hearsay or what people or politicians say. I do not get swayed by propaganda be it from any side. I know how to stay balanced and mature in my thinking. I write based on my own experiences and the experiences of those whom I know. THE PHOBIA IS NOT UNREAL. I have seen the difference in the situation under a Congress ruled regime and a BJP ruled regime. I have stated in my first comment that communal related problems can be 'subtle' in nature or 'severe'.

Your point of view can be understood as your experiences and information may be different from mine.

I am not a Congress spokesperson. I know that finally people will listen and believe whomever they want to based on their understanding of things and will finally vote for whomever they want to.

UP CM Akhilesh was saying he will not allow politicians to visit Musafarnagar. How come Sonia and Rahul allowed to visit with a view to consolidate their vote bank. They are least concerned about the plight of affected people of that area. If Modi had visited UP then the so called Congress supporters would have jumped from their feet calling it a vote bank politics.

What PM, Sonia & Rahul done for affected people of Kishtwar, where ethnic cleansing is taking place. Have any one visited there and tried to hear their problems. In India vote bank politics is being played by Congress and Samajwadi Party.

In the western world the average price of one litre petrol is Euros 1.45, in the third world countries like Mozambique, Kenya etc the price of 1 litre petrol is USD 1.35. These riots have been created by the BJP-VHP and other saffron terrorist groups. It is very simple, Modi knew that he will never come to power in UP, so he used his trump card which he did in Gujarat, creating a communal divide through riots. However, he fails to understand that UP is not Gujarat. Even a nincompoop can understand that this rioting has been caused by the saffron brigade. Why was Ashok Singhal sitting quiet for such a long time? Why didn't he come to Ayodhya or organize his hatred yatra since 5 years? Why suddenly at the time of election? It is a clear game plan of the BJP.

    Dear R.Fernandes,

BJP have come to power in Goa mainly because successive Congress governments there have been quite corrupt and not because the BJP did any great wonders there. Having said that Mr.Manohar Parikkar seems to be a good administrator and a leader who is not a divisive person and not a hardline communal man. So far he seems to have managed to maintain communal peace there. In a state like Goa with about 30% Christians one cannot afford to be communal. Moreover, Manohar Parikkar is an IIT graduate (I think IIT Bombay). In fact, if (a big if) the BJP do manage to come to power I would have preferred him to be in the running for PM alongwith Sushma Swaraj or someone 'moderate'. Never Modi the hardliner but now with Modi's announcement the others wont be considered. That is why I am with the Congress inspite of their failings which I find less unacceptable compared to living with the fear of communal tensions and other communal related problems whether severe in nature or subtle.

The biggest tragedy facing the country is UPA government with incompetent PM like you. For 30 people dying in riots there are more than 10 lakh infants dying every year due to malnutrition and lack of healthcare since all the money is ending with corrupt politicians under your leadership, with your time spent in shielding corrupt. How can they expect to feed themselves when food inflation is 18% last month due to corrupt APMCs ruled by corrupt politicians which you could never remove in last 10 years despite talking about reforms. Inflation during 10 year rule is 9% average vs 4% during BJP rule 1999-2004. Shame on your being economist PM. Any idiot also would now that more than 80% of food under food security will end up sold in black market with corrupt system nurtured by you.
