Mangalore, Feb 23: J A Rebello of Ujire, A V Rego of Bangalore and Dr V T D'Souza from Bendore will be honoured with the prestigious Rachana Awards 2005.

This was announced in a press conference in the Press Club here on Thursday February 23 at 10-30 in the morning by Rudolph D'Silva, president of Rachana.

While J A Rebello will be honoured with the Agriculturist of the year award, A V Rego will be felicitated as the Entrepreneur of the year.  Dr V T D'Souza has been chosen for the Professional of the year award.

This is for the 3rd consecutive year that Rachana has been honouring the achievers for their accomplishments. This year the process had begun with Rachana calling for applications/nominations through newspapers and internet media.

The selection panel consisted of Ronald (Roy) Castelino, Louis J Pinto, Rudolph Rodrigues, Santhosh D'Souza, Dr P N Veigas, Walter D'Souza, Cashmir Menezes, Joe D'Souza and Stany Veigas.

The awards will be presented at a gala function to be held at St Sebastian Platinum Jubilee Hall, Bendore at 6.15 pm on Sunday February 26.

Margaret Alva, AICC general secretary and Nelson Mandela Peace awardee will be the chief guest of the programme while Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore will preside over the award presentation ceremony. Bishop Aloysius Paul D'Souza of Mangalore will also honour Margaret Alva for her achievements and accomplishments.

Brig. Gerald Gonsalves (Retired) and Andrew Noronha, president, Catholic Sabha Central Committee will be the guests of honour on the occasion.

Rachana office-bearers Sushil Noronha and Joe Coelho were also present at the press conference.

J A Rebello from Ujire, has been declared as ‘The Agriculturist of the year’ - 2005 (40 years in Agriculture field)
       
He purchased 16 acres of barren land in Ujire and cultivated the same . After 45 years of hard  work and dedication he is a successful farmer today. His farms today has arecanut, coconut,  cocoa, vanilla, pepper, banana, teak, mango, amla  among other agricultural produce.

Being a professional farmer he has supplemented his income by Poultry and Dairy farming.  He also runs a small  Rice-mill. His  fertilizer and fuel needs met by co’mpost and bio-gas unit .

A V Rego from Bangalore, has been declared as ‘ The Entrepreneur of the year’-2005 ( 36 Years in Printing field)
         
A V Rego, born at Rosario in Mangalore, started working at Sharada Press at the age of fourteen years.  At the  young age  he went  to  Bombay in search of  better prospects, worked in Bombay for a  short  period in the field of  press. He came down to Bangalore in the year 1957. He worked for  many printing press, after gaining experience in the chosen field, ventured own printing press  in the year 1970.  Today after 35 years ‘Brilliant Printers’ in  Bangalore is a well-known and  respected name in the printing world. Winning various prestigious awards and  accolades,  with his success in  business he has also dedicated his service and wealth to the betterment of  the society, that has also won him many Laurels.

Dr V T D’ Souza from  Bendore, has been declared as ‘ The Professional of the year’-2005 (47 years in Homeopathic field)

Dr D'Souza, considered the pioneer of modern homoeopathy in Mangalore, is a  household name. After graduation in St. Aloysius College, he obtained Homeopathic qualification from Calcutta Homeopathic Medical College. While in Calcutta he has also  worked for Mother Theresa’s Institution in 1959. He joined Fr. Mullers Charitable  Institution and started working as  Asst. Physician and after 35 years of service he retired  as Senior Specialist and Chief Homeopathic Physician from Fr. Mullers Charitable Institution.  He has delivered many talks and presentation to popularize homeopathy in Karnataka.
