Tiger poisoned in Assam

Guwahati, Sep 16 (IANS): Two people have been arrested in Assam on suspicion of poisoning a tiger near the Kaziranga National Park, officials said Monday.

Park officials said the tiger was killed by a group of five people. Police are looking for the other three.

"The two confessed to killing the tiger by poisoning it. They said they had buried the tiger after killing it," the official said, adding that the forest department had exhumed the remains of the animal.

"This is the first incident of poisoning of a tiger in the park," the official said.

Earlier this year, two tigers, including a cub, died in the Kaziranga park.
