Dubai, Feb 23: Roads and houses were flooded as thunderstorms lashed the UAE today - and forecasters warned the turbulent weather was set to continue.

Traffic lights went dead and emergency generators were jump-started into operation as the aftereffects took their toll.

Cars were abandoned across the city as motorists realized they were unable to grapple with the deep waters on the roads caused by the rains and storm. The Met department said the same situation may continue on Friday and there could be showers on Saturday too.

The organizers of the Dubai Duty-free Tennis tournament are waiting for a respite from the rains before reaching a decision on the quarterfinals of the Women's Open here in Dubai.

The Golbal Village will remain closed on Thursday according to reports.
