M'lore: Karnataka Bank bags ‘ASSOCHAM’ Excellence Award

Mangalore, Sep 18: Karnataka Bank , the city based premier private sector bank has been  adjudged ‘runner up’ of ASSOCHAM [Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India] Social Banking Excellence Award, 2013, under the ‘private sector banks’ category, in recognition of the significant initiatives being  undertaken by the bank  in the sphere of social banking.

The award was received by P Jayarama Bhat, MD and CEO of the bank from Dr C Rangarajan, chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister, at a glittering function held on Monday September 16, at New Delhi.

“We are happy that the bank’s efforts to integrate social responsibility into its business strategies have been well recognized at national level in the form of this coveted award. The bank firmly believes that being an integral part of society, it is the inclusive growth of society which contributes ultimately to the all round growth of the bank. The bank has been strengthening its rural orientation by extending banking services to the people in rural unbanked areas by opening financial inclusion branches and USBs (Ultra Small Branches) besides embarking upon BC model (Business Correspondent Model). The bank has also surpassed the RBI prescribed mandatory lending targets under priority sector lending, including agricultural and weaker section lending. The bank will continue to explore ways and means to enhance the welfare of the society,” said P Jayarama Bhat, MD and CEO of the bank.
