Udupi: Govt benefits worth Rs 11.20 crore distributed

Udupi, Sep 19:
The district administration and zilla panchayat together organized a programme to distribute benefits worth Rs 11.20 crore to 8,864 beneficiaries in Udupi taluk at Town Hall on Wednesday September 18.

After inauguration, Vinay Kumar Sorake, minster for urban development said that in the district altogether 12,000 members availed the benefit including Kundapur and Karkala.

“State government has released Rs 12 crore for Brahmavar sugar factory to waive the loan of farmers. Varahi project is restored to get drinking water to the people in and around the region. Government will provide shelter to the shelter less people through Basava Vasathi. Besides title deeds will be given to the people who reside in government land under Section 94 C in rural areas and Section 94 CC in urban areas. For the arecanut growers who suffered loss, government has released Rs 3.5 crore in the first phase. Another Rs 3.5 crore will be released to compensate the loss. Each famer will get Rs 12,000 per hectare as the compensation package,” he said.

“The major issue bothering landholders is Form 9 and11 of the Panchayat Raj Act. The taxation rule and single layout problem is taken up with the government and government will provide suitable measures, Kodagu, Udupi, Chikmagalur, Dakshina Kannada, Uttar Kannada and Shimoga districts are exempted from the rule. The issue will be raised in the cabinet, following the meeting held by revenue minister, rural development minister and urban development minister,” he added.

Jayaprakash Hegde, MP Udupi-Chikmagalur said, “All public problems should be sorted out at the earliest by the government employees, so that there won’t be opportunity for bribing. Congress believes in transparent administration.”

“If there is shortage of panchayat secretaries and PDOs, let them work individually at different places. Services should be delivered in time,” he said.

He added that in the state administration, the role of central government is immense. Most of the aid will be granted by the central government.

He further said that if any corporate company or industry wants to acquire farming land for project, it should get consent from 80 percent of the farmers for the particular project. Otherwise the company cannot start the project.

Pramodh Madhwaja, MLA, Upendra Nayak, ZP president, Gowri V Poojary, TP president, P Uvaraj, CMC president, Prabhakar Sharma, CEO, Kumar, ADC, among others were present.
