Mangalore, Feb 26: A record quantity of 19,390 metric tonnes of coal was handled at the New Mangalore Port in the vessel M V Dubai Ambassador on Friday, February 24. This is the highest quantity of coal handled at the port in a day surpassing the earlier record of 17.828 metric tonnes handled in the vessel M V Maritime Newanda on September 24, 2005.
 
The vessel with a draft of 12.5 meters was handled at the newly constructed deep draft multipurpose general cargo berth. Davangere Sugars, Shamnur Sugars Pvt Ltd and Coastal Energy Pvt Ltd are the importers of the above consignment handled by HML agencies as C&F agent and Stevedore. So far, the port has handled 4 lac tonnes of coal during the current year 2005-06.

New Mangalore Port Trust chairman P Tamilvanan and deputy chairman M A Bhaskarachar have lauded the sincere efforts made by the above agencies, port employees and cargo-handling workers for this achievement.
