Udupi, Feb 27: A pedestrian was run over by an unidentified Maruti car at Kotalkatte near Kaup here on Sunday February 26 morning.

The deceased has been identified as Manjunath (32), a resident of Fakiranakatte at Mallar near Kaup.  He hailed from Hubli.  On Sunday morning he was viewing the 'Boota Kola' (a traditional religious ceremony), which was being held at Kotalkatte just beside the National Highway 17.

During that time, a Maruti car speeding on the highway knocked him down.  As a result he sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a private hospital here.  However, he succumbed to the injuries later in the day.

However, the car, which hit Manjunath, did not stop on the spot and fled the place.  The police have not yet been able to establish the identity of the car. The Kaup police have registered a hit and run case in this regard.
