Kota, Mar 1: Finally the day everybody eagerly awaited arrived at Kota when the parish feast was celebrated and the new church blessed on February 27.
Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza and nineteen priest present were escorted in procession from the old church to the entrance of the new church with traditional band.
The new church was inaugurated by Udupi episcopal vicar, Fr Valerian D’Souza and the Bishop blessed the beautiful church. A Holy Cross has been donated by Vincent Fernandes. The Bishop gave an inspiring homily and appreciated the 40 families of the parish for their generous help and co-operation to build the church.
After the Holy Mass, a stage function was held. Parish priest Fr Joe M Shenoy welcomed the gathering. Everyone who spoke mentioned the generosity of the parishioners and also the generous help from the donors from various places in building the church.
The Bishop in his message urged the people to adhere to devotion in day-to-day life. All the donors and those who are involved in the construction were honored by Bishop during the ceremony. Parish Council vice president Valerian Menezes read the history of the parish.
Fr Aurelio Rodrigues, the first parish priest of the Kota parish, along with the delegates of Pilar Fathers were present during the occasion. Sr Clotilda Margaret, ex-provincial of SMMI Karnataka province, hailing from Kota, was also present during the ceremony.
The entire function was sponsored by Sunil D'Souza and family. The church was well decorated with beautiful vases, buntings, colourful lights.
The momentous programme was compeered by parish council secretary Pricilla Fernandes.
Alwyn Quadras thanked everyone who made the function successful. The function was followed by a community lunch.
In the evening, the children and the youth of the parish entertained the parishioners, guests and all the people who all were present there with a cultural programme.
An attractive grotto donated by Sunil D'Souza and family was blessed during the vespers ceremony the previous evening.
