Mangalore, Mar 3: A protest seeking drinking water was staged in front of the gram panchayat office at Belma near here, on Thursday March 2.
The people of the village have not received water for the past two weeks and the gram panchayat has neglected the appeals, said Vanita Ramakrishna, who led the protest. Water for nearly 350 families residing in the village relying on the water from gram panchayat was suddenly stopped two weeks ago. Owing to the scarcity, the villagers are forced to purchase water, she said.
Appeals have been made to the deputy commissioner and the chief executive officer of the zilla panchayat and taluk panchayat, to solve the water problem. If the problem is not attended to, the gram panchayat office will be locked up, she added.
