Terror strike won't derail meeting: Pakistan minister

Islamabad, Sep 27 (IANS): Pakistan's parliament was told Friday that the recent militant attack on Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir would not affect the upcoming summit meeting of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh.

A Pakistani minister told parliament Friday that Nawaz Sharif would meet Manmohan Singh according to schedule and the Kashmir attack would not affect the talks, Xinhua reported.

Pakistan's Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the National Assembly that anti-Pakistan elements are linking Thursday's incident with the Line of Control (LoC) violations in a bid to derail the dialogue process.

"These elements will not succeed in their nefarious designs," the minister said.

He said a positive outcome would emerge from the meeting, which would help move forward the dialogue process between the two countries to resolve all outstanding issues.

Four soldiers, six policemen and two civilians were killed in Jammu and Kashmir Thursday in an audacious terror attack that also left three militants presumably from Pakistan dead.
