Mangalore, Sep 28: On the occasion of World Tourism Day, the tourism department, district administration, KSTDC, and Jungle Lodges and Resorts jointly organized a celebration at Ravindra Kalabhavan, University College, on Friday September 27.

The celebration was inaugurated by district commissioner N Prakash.

Manohar Prasad, news bureau head of Udayavani, U Jeethendranath, deputy director of tourism department, Yathish Baikampady of Panambur beach tourism development, Vathika Kamath, tourism head of KCCI, Nirmala Kamath, proprietor of Nirmala Travels, Amal Kutti, principal, Angadi, Chikmut, shared the dais.

District commissioner N Prakash, in his address, said, Dakshina Kannada district is ahead in all fields compared to other districts. Even in tourism, we have done good but we still have a lot of potential to excel, he said.

Manohar Prasad spoke on the topic, Tourism and Water, Protecting Our Common Future. He said, through water sources, tourism began and even when British entered India, they came through the sea route.

Stating that tourism and water are inter-related, he said that Singapore, being a small nation, derives a major part of its revenue from tourism. Even we have the potential to be strong in tourism but the sad part is we have not utilized it much, he said adding that water conservation should be a part of tourism.
