Mangalore, Mar 4: A legal awareness camp on ‘National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005’ was organized by the Dakshina Kannada District Legal Services Authority (Mangalore), DEEDS and Fiyan (Karnataka) here, on Friday March 3.
Addressing the gathering, N C Srinivas, sessions judge and district legal services authority member, said that the government should seriously consider doing away with those Acts which do not serve the purpose in any way. There are nearly 45,000 such Acts in India, he revealed.
The ‘Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005’, which was passed recently assuring 100 days of employment to the unemployed rural youth, will be profitable to the nation only if it is incorporated properly, he said.
H P Sandesh, First Additional District Court judge, opined that there is a urgent need to generate awareness among the people about the several Acts that have been passed down the years.
Also present on the occasion were Merlyn Martis, director, DEEDS and John Bosco, convener, Fiyan (Karnataka).
