Cinema should change society's stereotypes: Subhash Kapoor

New Delhi, Sep 28 (IANS): Cinema is often known to portray what is depicted in society. But instead of merely mirroring society films must strive to bring about change, says Bollywood director Subhash Kapoor.

"There is a lot of stereotyping in Hindi cinema. These stereotypes exist in society. Cinema does not change it, it portrays it. This must change," Kapoor said here during a panel discussion on 'Tracking the trajectory of the secular/communal impulse of Indian cinema'.

The discussion was held here Friday as part of a seminar 'Secularism and the Arts'.

Kapoor has helmed movies like "Phas Gaye Re Obama" and "Jolly LLB".
