Modi attacks Sharif for 'insulting' Indian PM

Modi slams Rahul, asks people to choose 'dream team'

Updated

New Delhi, Sep 29 (IANS): BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi Sunday attacked Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi for "insulting" Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and asked people to choose a "dream team" in 2014 by junking the "dirty team" of Congress-led UPA.

Addressing his first - and a mammoth - rally in Delhi in his new avatar, Modi also hit out at Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for reportedly calling Manmohan Singh a "dehati aurat" (rural woman).

There was a huge turnout -- the crowds estimated at between two and five lakh -- at the sprawling Japanese Park in north Delhi, with the Gujarat chief minister cheered by an army of young supporters who kept a steady chant of "Modi! Modi!" Several diplomats also turned up to hear Modi.

Like elsewhere in the country, Modi overshadowed the local leaders of the BJP including Delhi president Vijay Goel and veterans Vijay Kumar Malhotra and Vijender Gupta. Former BJP president Nitin Gadkari was also present.

"When his own party leader calls the PM 'nonsense', how can he (PM) get respect abroad?", the Bharatiya Janata Party star asked, triggering a wild round of applause and sloganeering.

Modi was referring to Gandhi's outburst Friday against an ordinance passed by the cabinet that sought to overturn an apex court ruling disqualifying politicians convicted of crime. Gandhi had called it "complete nonsense".

Referring to Gandhi as "prince", Modi said: "If I may use a rural terminology, then Congress upadhyaksh ne pradhan mantri ki pagdi uchhal di (Gandhi has insulted the prime minister)."

In his 65-minute speech, he urged people to choose between democracy and dynasty in the next Lok Sabha election.

"There is a war between dynastic rule and democracy," he said of the Gandhis. "The dynastic rule is trying to strangle democracy. Will the country function on the basis of constitution or on the whims of the prince?

"The dynastic rule and the prince are not just insulting the prime minister but insulting the constitution, the parliament and democracy," he added.

Modi targeted growing corruption and said the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government was hit by "policy paralysis" and that its "non-governance" was akin to diabetes.

"For 10 years the nation has tolerated UPA. In 2014, the country needs a dream team, not a dirty team. This dirty team needs to be uprooted," he thundered, as the crowds roared.

Modi also made fun of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit but without taking her name, saying she only "cut ribbons" and passed the buck if and when things went wrong.

Attacking Sharif for describing Manmohan Singh as a "dehati aurat" (rural woman) in New York, Modi asked, raising his voice: "Nawaz Sharif, how dare you say this? What right you have to say this?"

He said that while he was ready to take on Manmohan Singh within India, he would not tolerate any attack on the prime minister by a foreigner.

"There can never be a greater insult to the Indian PM. There cannot be a greater insult to India," he said of Sharif's reported remark.

Modi's comments came hours before Manmohan Singh and Sharif are set to meet on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

Modi did not spare Manmohan Singh either, doubting his ability to raise tough questions with Sharif -- on Jammu and Kashmir and on the killings of Indian soldiers by Pakistani troops.

"I doubt if you will be able to meet Nawaz Sharif with your head held high because in the past few years you have lost your habit of speaking.

"The nation doubts if you will be able to discuss when the Pakistan- occupied Kashmir will be returned to India. The nation doubts if you will able to discuss when Pakistan will stop supporting terrorism in India."

Did Sharif insult Manmohan Singh? Journalists say 'no'

Did Nawaz Sharif call Manmohan Singh a "dehati aurat" (rural woman)? If yes, did the Pakistan prime minister mean to insult his Indian counterpart?

Once BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi made the alleged remark public at a huge rally here, journalists Hamid Mir of Pakistan and Barkha Dutt of India claimed that no offence was meant.

Mir told Geo TV that Sharif had told him and Barkha Dutt over breakfast in New York that Manmohan Singh had complained, like a "dehati aurat", about Pakistan to US President Barack Obama.

Mir felt Sharif was unhappy with Manmohan Singh.

Mir said: "Sharif smilingly told Barkha: 'Looks like Manmohan Singh went to Obama not like India's prime minister but like a dehati aurat to complain to Obama'.

He later tweeted: "PM Nawaz never said anything derogatory against Manmohan."

NDTV's Barkha Dutt added that "Sharif's allegorical account was all about how disputes should not involve third parties. Not once was a slur passed by him against the PM.

"Sharif was upset that Pakistan (was) raised by India with Obama. In this context, he told an allegorical tale...

"In Sharif's tale, there was a dispute between two villagers, one was a woman. Story ended with how fights should be settled between parties," she said in a tweet.

Modi went on to hit out at Sharif over the reported remark.

"Nawaz Sharif, how dare you say this?" Modi asked, raising his voice at a BJP rally here. "What right you have to say this?"

Modi called Sharif's remark an insult to Indian prime minister. He also demanded to know why the Indian journalist -- whose name he did not take -- at the breakfast meeting with Sharif did not storm out in protest.

Manmohan Singh and Sharif are in New York to attend the UN General Assembly. They are to meet later Sunday to discuss bilateral issues.

Congress accuses Modi of insulting prime minister

The Congress Sunday accused Narendra Modi of "insulting" Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, saying that the BJP leader had chosen to believe a Pakistan journalist about purported remarks of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif about his Indian counterpart.

Congress communication department chairman Ajay Maken said Modi had "quoted the story" of Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir in his public rally here Sunday, but said it was surprising that he did not ask Indian journalists about Sharif's remarks.

"Narendra Modi quoted the story of Pakistani journalist Hamid Mir ... It is very surprising that Modi who calls himself a nationalist, didn't ask Indian journalists and believed the journalist from Pakistan. It is Narendra Modi who has insulted the prime minister," Maken said.

Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party's prime ministerial candidate for the 2014 general elections, said at the rally that Sharif had described Manmohan Singh as a "dehati aurat" (rural woman) during a meeting in New York with Indian and Pakistani journalists.

Modi also accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of insulting Manmohan Singh by ridiculing a government-backed ordinance on convicted lawmakers.

This Burkha Dutt is just a Double Faced woman. She went on attacking Govt for 2G Scam. But in reality along with Neera Radia she had only Lobbied for Raja for Telecom Minister's Post and then earned huge Commission from vested interests. She is a good friend of Kanimozhi too.
Every one is aware why she has sympathy for Pakistan PM.

Even I attended FEKU's Mangalore rally before Karnataka state assembly few months back, where huge crowd gathered, just to see his FEKUgiri. And you know the outcome... hahaha

I will give you a small example
3 weeks ago a hindi movie 'Grand Masti' got released. Everyone knew it was a vulgar movie, still people turned out in a huge number to watch it, just for time pass & movie became Super Hit!!!
Does it change openion on the movie? No, even though, people who watched it, enjoyed it... they call it bakwaas! Just because it earned lots of money, we can't label it 'Classic movie'!
    Same thing happend here... .

Elaborating what had happened during meeting with Sharif, the Indian TV anchor wrote that Sharif merely expressed unhappiness over the fact that Pakistan had been so central to the meeting between Singh and Obama. "He argued that India should have brought its grievances to Pakistan directly. He also said it reminded him of an allegorical story of a dispute between two people in a village, in which one was a woman. The moral of his story was that disputes should be settled between parties directly and not involve a third party," said the anchor.
the journo frm india who present with Hamid Mir writes in TOI
"His story was an illustrative example of dispute resolutions between India, Pakistan and the United States," she wrote.
That means saying a story Nawaz settled score with Manmohan bcoz when met Obmama , he complained about PAK.

Hi ms. D' Souza. Then why was he ordinance brought n e first place. Why was it placed before the president in the 2nd place. This ordinance didn't come from the Mars? RG is a deciding factor of congress and not a normal MP or MLA. How can a country believe ... Using a word nonsense and to be thrown on the a piece of ordinance of his own govt. of which mr. Prmie minister is heading is insult to head of the govt which is PM. What other meaning can we derive out of it ? I am amused at the way our congress supporters trying to cover up this blasphemy.
Well, any opposition party will pick up the weakness of he govt and its member. Why would they do it? There is no point in ruling party crying about it.
Mrs. Sonia have man times used words against Mr. vajpayee when he was a prime minister.
Lets face he reality . mr. Modi may be good for some and bad for many... He fact now lies is he presen government is useless and the weakness must be pinpointed by someone. The govt. is run by many heads and this is not good for he country, this must be made this members of the presen govt. felt and also told that, any govt's credibility is the future of millions of Indians. I hope there will be better and strong leader like PV Narsimha Rao, A B Vajpayee emerge out of the mass and lead the country for better tomorrow, the leader who is acceptable for all and no baised on vote bank, the leader who loves the country, respects the constitution and gain the confidence of all the Inians. Wee need good and honest polic makers to accelerate the growth, we needs projects and projects to generate employment.. Or else, a country with more than 50% youth can become a big criminal den, as saying goes idle mind is devils workshop,
So my friends .. Don't snub he opposition ... Question the govt. and only then we can get some kind of accountability. Accountability triggers progress. I love my India.

    6. Rahul shown that he is pro people, he spoke in favour of Right to food, FDI in retail etc in favour of Govt. and spoke against the ordinance which is against people.

    Dear Mr. Jayarama Udupi/Riyadh,
“To save one life is like saving all mankind”
You should have asked where you are why amongh their own community killing each other?!

    1) The 10 commandments are the fundamental to evey human.
    2) If Mr. Modi was knowing ten commandments he would have not killed more than 2000’s also the plance hijackers dare to take up their guns.( To save one life is like saving all mankind)
    3) In the hijacked plane there were only 180 passangers including the crew and not 270.
    4) Love thy neighbour as you love yourself. If the hijackers were knowing this verse they would have dare to touch the neighbours nation & their plane. (To save one life is like saving all mankind)
    5) Those who take up the sword will perish by the sword. If the terrorists have taken up the sword they will perish by the sword (Who will use the sword to kill the terrorists?! Don’t ask me again).
    6) If the BOKO HARAM were well known To save one life is like saving all mankind” they would have dared to kill 50 innocent students in North Eastern Nigeria on 29th Sept. 2013.
    7) If the Pakistan’s Al-Qaida & Talibans were knowing To save one life is like saving all mankind” they would have not killed 80 innocent Christians in Pakistan a few days back.
    8) On Friday 27th sept. 2013 at least 17 people were killed in the bombing of a bus carrying government employees near Peshawar.(To save one life is like saving all mankind)
    9) On 29th Sept.2013 An explosion has ripped through a market in the north-western Pakistani city of Peshawar, leaving at least 33 dead (To save one life is like saving all mankind).
    10) If the bjp were knowing To save one life is like saving all mankind they would have not massacred Christians in Orissa a few years back.
    11) If the bjp was knowing To save one life is like saving all mankind they would have not given provocative speaches in Muzaffarnagar led into killing of at least 50 & the innocents houses were destroyed.

If you read once again Ms. D'cunha's message, you will find no where he has called Modi a serpent. He has likened Pakistan to a Serpent.

It is the same way, like how you have twisted the message to suit you to spit venom, Modi also does that many a times, just to hide the truth. If there was so much of development in Gujarath, he could have used that to project his ability to govern. He cannot do that because those are fabricated\hyped up news in reality.
No wonder you believe whatever Modi utters, never trying find out whether he is telling truth or lies.

    Dear Simple

The discussion was between me and Mr. Harold,I cant understand why you want to poke your nose into it. I have already written to Mr.Harold a clarification regarding it. If you want to have a discussion please use good language first and stop speaking with words like Sanghi, RSS etc, coz I think there is no other issue that you can say regarding development under the congress rule. Lets discuss with facts and figures if you dont mind about your great congress party.Just jumping on this forum with no substance, will not have any benefit.

Tell me about the development done by congress, what policies do you support and what you dont like about BJP and then there can be some discussio. Now I am sure you will again say the same thing that Modi is communal for which I have already replied with my thoughts to Mr. Harold. If you have something new to tell me you are most welcome. Even regarding the Lokayukta issue that you raised last time I have replied to you. Well known fact that even 2 weeks back when Modi recommended 3 names of some most senior retired Judges, the governor did not accept it. You can clearly see how the congress governor does not allow for lokayukta and then you blame Modi for not having one.Thats how congress plays dirty politics.

Why this man is not ashamed of telling lies again and again? He made a story based on report from a Pakistan journalist. No Indian journalist reported this. He seems to believe Pakistan journalist more than Indian journalists.

Trying to fool the people that he is challenging Pakistan prime minister for comments on Manmohan Singh, he not only undermined our Prime minister and told a story that Singh begged with Obama. He not only made fun of PM but also we Indians.

He did not utter a word about the President Obama breaking the presidential protocol coming down to the portico to bid good bye to Manmohan Singh which is a rare warm gesture from the President that is not witnessed for some time in the past. He did not say about the respect Obama had with our prime minister. His speech was like an uneducated talking in the street with sarcastic voice against their opponents.

Except for making fun of Manmohan Singh and Gandhi family there was no substance in the speech. With such a large crowd, he could have spoken about his plans if he comes to power but unfortunately he unmasked his real face once again. He thinks that he will win elections by making fun of his opponents. Advani did it in 2009, people rejected him and same will be the fate of this man.

Recently, India's most well-known film script-writer Salim Khan (actor Salmaan Khan's father) has said to a senior journalist in an interview: "Does anyone remember who the chief minister of Maharashtra was during the Mumbai riots which were no less deadly than the Gujarat riots of 2002?

Does anyone recall the name of the chief minister of UP during Malliana and Meerut riots or that of the Bihar CM when the Bhagalpur or Jamshedpur riots under Congress regimes took place?

Do we hear names of earlier chief ministers of Gujarat under whose charge, hundreds of riots took place in post-Independence India?

Does anyone remember who was in-charge of Delhi's security when
the 1984 massacre of Sikhs took place in the capital of India?

Just let me ask you one question, why should people remember any chief minister or person names who were in charge during the time of riot it is a closed chapter because those in charge were kicked out and are now no where seen in politics and are not aspiring to be Prime minister, Than why is Feku (modi) being signaled,it is because instead of leaving the chief Minister chair after the riot he got stuck to it and now wants to become the Prime Minister that is why he is being signaled, I hope it is clear to you now and all doubts cleared.

We don't like Mr. Modi or his communal party BJP. We just watched Mr. Narendra Modi's speech in Delhi on Most reliable and well recognized International BBC channel, it was impressive, well spoken with facts, and we do agree all he said, as all facts were presented after the speech by BBC journalist, as per their statics, that was the largest crowed attended in Delhi to hear his speech.
As there is a old English saying " You love him or hate him, but you can't ignore him, there is something in him" this statement well suites Mr. Modi, you can't ignore this guy, he is born with leadership qualities.
We are not bias, we don't hesitate to express our views, even if we don't like Mr. Modi, if he is destined to be the PM of this country, no one can stop him, even god comes down to earth from heaven can not stop him. New York: Little did I know that a short, off-camera breakfast conversation with Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would be distorted to such a grave extent. I went to meet PM Sharif to pursue an interview, one that he gave to our network, and one in which he in fact called Prime Minister Manmohan Singh "a good man" whom he would like to welcome in Pakistan "for a long overdue visit": Barkha Dutt, NDTV.
Modi has killed two birds with one stone. Called MMS as what he has always thought he was and barked at our enemy to show himself as the strongman. FEKU does it again.

    Dear Santosh,
Serpent, no matter how much you respect and feed it with milk, still it will vomit poison and venom. So the case with Pakistan. Only answer to them what Indian mother Late Indira Gandhi taught them in 1971 War.

Action and giving speech is different. NDA had failed to give Pak good response during their governance. Even in the Kargil war, India won it but more than 1000 soldiers died and Bofors guns saved us from more destruction. Thanks to late PM Rajiv Gandhi. During Kargil war, our soldiers did not have winter shoes. That was the pity and the calamities would have reduced with better planning and pro active approach.

Now BJP PM candidate Modi, can he deliver common man's dream of roti, kapda, makan. He is a man for rich and upper middle class. Now his only goal to become PM by giving emotional speech and arousing youngsters mind. Like 2004, I am sure 2014 will repeat and India will have a able PM.

    Dear Harold

How can you call a CM of our country elected 3 times continuously with almost 3/4th majaority a serpent?? What was Modi's fault, that he allowed the communal clash in 2002. Remember he was new and only 4 months old CM when it happened. He came on national tv and applied for calm, called army within 48 hours, yet you hold him responsible. No one ever talks what was the root cause of the clash. No one talks about the burning of Sabarmati express which killed innocent children and women, tell me frankly how many congress leaders or Tv anchors or social activist's condemmed the train burning act?? What happened was spontaneous Mob fury. Modi even asked for police to be sent from MP and Rajastan which was ruled by the congress. Why did they refuse to send police to Gujarat if they cared so much for the people of Gujarat. Why cant you see the progress of Gujarat after the Riots. More than 10 years of Riot free rule in Guajarat, which was never heard of in the history of Gujarat. Development of the state recognised by the whole world and even Indian government which conferred so many awards to the state.
NDA at that time never wanted to have a war and tried to build good relations with Pakistan, Kargil was unfortunate, but again your figures are not correct, you simply say thousands died in Kargil whereas the official toll is 527. Same is said regard to communal clashes bu the offcial figures again are around 750 people which include 250 Hindus as well. More than 200 people are in the Jails serving various sentences for the communal riots but you still stick to the stand that Modi is Communal. With 60 Years of congress rule and far many incidents of communal deaths you dont have any problems with the congress.
Still if you think if Modi is a serpent that all I can say is that In India even serpents are worshipped as Nag Devata. So Modi still deserves respect in my eyes

I am not a supporter of any party but I am surprised to read and hear about Modimania just because of his rhetoric speeches. I just heard his speech in Delhi and I heard him for the first time. Modi's speech gave me an impression that he is over involved in proclaiming hatred. I did not hear any good news or his vision but only bad news about the problems and worries of Congress. As a leader Modi must share good news, share vision, programmes, address the problems and worries of people and not just of congress. We already know the problems of Congres party.

A rhetoric speech alone does not make a person a good leader but one should have mature character and a decent personality to unite all and work for inclusive growth. In today's speech Modi did not share any good or richness of India but gave a picture that our situation is worst in the world. Absolutely wrong. Speech is full of lies, hatred and boasting. Dear Mr. Modi, be humble to acknowledge greatness of our country, share good news. Share your vision for India as a prime Ministerial candidate of 2014 elections. Please dont waste your and others precious time in sharing weaknesses of others which we already know. Grow up, change your strategy and then you can win the confidence and trust of the people.

Today he is not faking. He is right. It is shame that Pak PM calls Indian counterpart like that. The remark has created outrage in the tweeter etc. Any one irrespective of party he supports should be concerned by this attitude of PAK PM. But blind followers will not see the truth!!

Dear AmulTea-Boy I quote your statement: He added that the reason Sharif "insulted" Manmohan Singh was because the Indian prime minister was not being respected by his own Congress party. Unquote.

Dr. Manmohan Singhji is a respected person all over India and abroad.
You, the PuppyLove Mr. Modi, and your party are criticizing Dr. Manmohan Singhji daily including on Independence Day how can you expect others?!
First keep your mouth and tongue controlled although your acting is more than enough.
    The bjp has big mouth.
Nawaza Sherif has big noise/aawaz bada./big volume.
Dr. Manmohan Singhji has already spoken in tough words.
    CONGRESS RESCUER.
    BJP ARE IN FRACTURE.
    WALKING IN CROCHER.
    RSS AFFILIATE BOUCHER.
    FOR OUR INDIA’S FUTURE.
    WE DON’T NEED A BUTCHER.

Whatever it may be! But at least he warned the Pakistan PM. But what our congis are doing? Dont they feel shame? How dare Sharif to call our PM as "Dehati Aurat". Yes! this is only because of congress leaders. They never gave him freedom to take any decission. These congis are ready to sell our country for thier dirty politics.

Its our duty to raise voices and show opposition when someone speaks so cheap about our PM. Any PM irrespective of any political party to which he belongs to. So Modi don't make politics out of it. I know there are large sections of people who are your blind followers. Just wonder hoe can one follow someone by seeing his one side.. The other side is so scary and can't even think of it. So u.don't have to take credit out of it.
It seems like you have been waiting for such incidents to happen so that you can please your so called "NaMo" followers! If you were truly respectful to our PM, then you would not personally make such idiotic comments against him in your public rallies. While coming to indifference among the partysmen, it is quite evident the way your veteran and one of the founders of your party is ill treated.. RSS has forced him to remain silent and make way for you . It is quite ironical to see the way your party spokespersons speak so openly against Advanji. Yes he might have lost, but a man with mission and vision. Atalji one of India's respected PM is seen nowhere!! First learn to treat your political counterparts then worry about others . How different are you from Congress?

    Friends,

Rahul Gandhi will be PM by next month end. MMS will soon resign. "TORN UP-THROW AWAY" are all big Nataka by Mummy Son duo. Congress is finding the way to counter Modi. In fact my guess is that Sonia would have told Nawaz Sharif to call MMS as Rural Woman.

Is congress heading for biggest split? The political experts say that. Wait and watch.

Modi, You have made enough insults to Manmohan Singh in your various campaigns which was highlighted in various channels. That time I think you were not in your usual sense. Dont make dramas and your uttara kumara behaviours is only to please a purticular section of audions. Just enjoy while ther laugh because you have to cry lott in future. What happened to you on that day when karan Thapur interviewed you on CNN. Why did you shiver so much and drank that much water!!

Manoj Kumar, Mangalore Pak PM insults Dr. Manmohan Singh by saying that " Hindustand ka PM dehati aurat ki tarah hai".
To which Modi replies in National Capital- "Nawaz Sharif, teri kya aukaat hai ki 125 crore ki abaadi ke is desh ke pradhaan mantri ko tu dehati kehta hai!!".

Never saw a politician after Atal Ji, giving such a befitting reply to Pakistan. This is why he should be the PM. We don't want a government which only exchanges love letters with the enemy country

    Dear Durgadas
very well coined. Wish everyone on Daiji reads your comment. For Modi it is always India and Indians first and not petty politics like Muslim, Hindu, Christian, Dalit, Sc St etc. Modi speaks for Indian's not for a particular section of the community

Don't worry. We Indians also have same feeling on MMS as Nawaz Shariff rightly said.

This RURAL WOMAN has put entire Indians on shame. People of the world have given him awards like TRAGIC FIGURE, UNDER ACHIEVER etc.
