Stevenson wins world light-heavyweight title

Ottawa, Sep 29 (IANS): Adonis Stevenson of Canada beat former world champion Tavoris Cloud of the US after seven rounds to win the World Boxing Council light-heavyweight title.

It was the 36-year-old's ninth victory in a row Saturday and he has improved his record to 22-1, reports Xinhua.

Stevenson, a southpaw, was the home favourite after defending his world title by knocking out American Chad Dawson in only 76 seconds in June.

"I've beaten two great champions," Stevenson said.

"Just basic boxing, connecting, using my jab, my movement. I was training for that. I've been in seven rounds, I still can box him."
