Bangalore, Sep 30: A large number of leaders belonging to different political parties and other social activists keen on launching a campaign for bringing in clean democracy will be taking out a ''padayatra for real democracy” in Bangalore on Gandhi Jayanti day on Wednesday.

State JD(U) President Dr M P Nadagouda said a meeting of likeminded people held on September 14, which was attended among others by freedom fighter H S Doreswamy, had decided to continue the struggle to achieve clean democracy.

The padayatra on October 2 in Bangalore is a part of the agitation, he said.

Ravi Krishna Reddy from Lok Satta party said the situation has reached the lowest ebb with those without money and muscle power cannot win elections.

''This is a very sad situation and not the kind of Ram Rajya that the father of the nation wanted to usher in,” he said.

The aim is to build a political system on the basis of principles, honesty, commitment, secularism and pro-people stand.

Siddarth Sharma of Aam Aadmi party said the padayatra was intended to bring pressure for introducing electoral reforms, including the proposal for Election Commission bearing poll expenditure of candidates.

The Yaatra would start at 9.30 am from Mahatma Gandhi Road on October 2 and move via Kasturba Road, Mallya Hospital, Raja Ram Mohan Roy Road, N R Square and Mysore Bank Circle to reach Mahatma Gandhi statue near Ananda Rao Circle at 12.30 pm.

The organisers have urged likeminded people to join the padayatra if they were interested in clean and real democracy in the country.
