Mangalore, Mar 7: Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Karnataka Dalit Sangharsha Samiti (Ambedkar faction) and KSRTC Employees Association organized a road block here on Monday March 6 to urge the government to fulfill its demands.
The jatha began from A B Shetty Circle and culminated with a rasta roko at Ambedkar Circle.
Dalit Sangharsha Samiti state convenor Mavalli Shankar speaking on the occasion said the district administration has failed to clear the stay order on the entry of KSRTC mini buses from Udupi to State Bank area in Mangalore city. This has affected hundreds of passengers, students who travel daily from Udupi to State Bank area. He urged the district administration to allow entry of KSRTC mini buses to State Bank area.
He also demanded government should allocate Rs 3,000 crore for the development of Dalit community, in the State budget.
The jatha was also organised to protest the step motherly attitude of the Government towards KSRTC buses and to urge the government to fill up the backlog of vacancies in the KSRTC.
A memorandum was submitted to the chief minster, deputy chief minister and Transport Minister through the Deputy Commissioner.
