Mangalore, Mar 9: The Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy organised women's day celebration and Tulu Mahaniyerottugu Samvada at the Tulu Chavadi on Wednesday March 8.

An interactive discussion marked the programme where the focus was on the demands of women. The demand to avoid the usage of the word 'widow' in both legal and general parlance was also discussed.

Speaking on the occasion senior citizen Manorama Bhat suggested that the word ‘widow’ could be comfortably replaced with the phrase 'wife of’ in the media especially in the print media.

The academy honoured two women achievers- Sharada R Rao and Catherine Rodrigues on the occasion of world women’s day.

Advocate Pushpalathapalata R presented her paper on legal aspects such as property rights for women, divorce procedures and basic legal knowledge for women.
