Third Front meet in Delhi Oct 30: Mulayam

Lucknow, Oct 5 (IANS): Like-minded political parties will meet in Delhi Oct 30 to discuss the formation of a Third Front ahead of Lok Sabha polls, Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said Saturday.

Addressing a gathering at Etawah after laying the foundation stone of his dream project, a Lion Safari, Yadav said the meeting had been convened by CPI-M general secretary Prakash Karat.

"People and parties may be making tall claims but the fact is that the Third Front will emerge as the biggest group after the Lok Sabha polls," the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said.

Yadav also took potshots at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and said the huge crowds at its rallies would not guarantee votes in elections.

"Log badi badi batein karte hain ki badi bhari bheed hai, par kaam kuch nahin karte hain" (People make tall claims but do precious little work for people), he said.

Yadav said the Uttar Pradesh government headed by Akhilesh Yadav had made education, medicine and water free for farmers.

He told his son-cum-chief minister to ensure that Uttar Pradesh had surplus power by the end of his five-year tenure.
