Bali, Oct 7 (IANS): The absence of US President Barack Obama from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit will be a loss for APEC economies, a senior Chinese official said here Monday.
Yu Ping, vice chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade said APEC is a great family consisting of 21 economies, Xinhua reported.
Yu said the absence of any leader will be a loss, and it is not equivalent to say which economy benefits from the absence of any other APEC member.
US President Barack Obama has cancelled his plan to attend the APEC summit in Bali because of the government shutdown impasse.
Yu said the US economy offers great bearing on China and the global economy.
"Chinese business community and their counterparts all hope that US can maintain a recovery momentum and contribute to the recovery of the world economy," Yu added.
