Bulgaria detains ship with 24 illegal Afghan migrants


Sofia, Oct 9 (IANS): Bulgarian Border Police officers Wednesday detained a ship with 24 Afghan illegal migrants and two crew members on board, the country's interior ministry said.

The ship carrying 13 Afghan men, five women and six children was found eight miles from Cape Kaliakra in the northern Bulgarian Black Sea coast, Xinhua reported citing a ministry press release.

Since the beginning of the year, Bulgarian security forces have arrested more than 6,400 people who have tried to enter the country illegally, most of them along the land border with Turkey.

Meanwhile, the ministry said that 124 people illegally crossed Bulgaria's border with Turkey from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning, including 91 Syrians.
