Udupi, Mar 13: J Laxman (59), retired SI of Kaup police station near here was killed when a speeding bus knocked him down on National Highway 17 at Koppalangady near Kaup on Sunday March 12.
Laxman had retired from service on October 31, 2005 after serving police department for 37 years. Thereafter he was living at Koppalangady. On Sunday he was on his way back home after his daily jogging session when a speeding bus ran over him just near his house.
During his 37-year career as police he had rendered service at various places. He joined the department as constable and after serving as writer at Pandeshwar police station in Mangalore he had served in Gokarna, Karwar, Bhatkal, Siddhapur, Shirva, Manipal and Kaup police stations.
After his retirement he preferred to stay at Koppalangady owing to his son's education. His son is studying in Vidyaniketan Public School. He had his own ancestral house at Kumbla near Kasargod.
He is survived by wife and a son.
The Kaup police have registered a case in this regard.
