Haryana, Punjab paddy arrival crosses 21 lakh tonnes


Chandigarh, Oct 10 (IANS): Food grain states Haryana and Punjab have seen over 21 lakh tonnes of paddy arriving this season after the procurement process started Oct 1, officials said Thursday.

In Haryana, over 13.06 lakh tonnes of paddy has so far arrived in the various grain markets, said food and supplies department officials. Karnal, Kurukshetra and Kaithal districts were leading in paddy arrivals.

The officials said that the arrival this year was much higher than the arrival of over 8.85 lakh tonnes paddy in the corresponding period last year.

In Punjab, government agencies and private millers procured over 8.26 lakh tonnes paddy till Wednesday evening.

Ferozepur, Tarn Taran and Muktsar districts were leading in paddy procurement, officials said.
