BMW launches the new 5 Series sedan


New Delhi, Oct 10 (IANS): German luxury automobile manufacturer BMW Thursday launched the new model of its sedan -- 5 Series priced between Rs.46.90 lakh and Rs.57.90 lakh.

"The BMW 5 Series is the 'world's most sought after executive sedan' and has played a major role in the company's success globally," said Philipp von Sahr, president, BMW Group India.

"BMW 5 Series is one of the core models in our product portfolio in India and accounts for over one third of our local production in India."

The new sedan is locally produced at the company's Chennai plant and will be available in diesel variants in three exclusive design schemes of the luxury line, modern line and M Sport.

The 530d M Sport variant of the vehicle comes with a twinpower turbo inline six-cylinder diesel engine with a three litre capacity.

Whereas, the 525d variant uses twinpower turbo four-cylinder diesel engine with a two litre capacity.

The 520d variant uses a twinpower turbo four-cylinder diesel engine with a two litre capacity. The diesel engines are mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission with cruise control.

The new vehicle also features active protection with attention assist, active headrests, dynamic stability control (DSC) with dynamic traction control (DTC) and side-impact protection.
