Kundapur, Mar 14: A final BE student of National Institute of Technology-Karnataka at Suratkal was drowned in Arishinagundi falls near Kollur here on Sunday March 12.

Chandrashekhar (21), a final year student of mechanical engineering at NIT-K at Suratkal hailed from Tamil Nadu.  On Sunday he, along with 38 other companions had gone to visit Kollur Temple.  After having the lunch he went to Arishingundi Falls with 5 more companions.  However, while swimming he drowned.  Though his friends immediately pulled him out of the water, he had breathed his last by that time.

Though Chandrashekhar hailed from Tamil Nadu, his parents are now living in Bangalore.  His father Aliappa Moodaliyar reached Kollur on Monday.  After the autopsy, Chandrashekhar's body has been handed over to the family.

Chandrashekhar was staying in the NIT-K hostel.  It is quite saddening that more and more students of NIT-K are becoming the victims of mishaps such as accidents, suicides, drowning etc.  Only a couple of week ago that two students of NIT-K hailing from North India had died in road accidents.

Chandrashekhar's friends who were with him while he drowned said that he knew swimming.  Moreover, there was no much water where he drowned.  So it is thought that he might have drowned owing to a muscle catch.  A condolence meet was held at NIT-K on Monday evening guided by director J K Shivkumar.

The Kollur police have registered a case in this regard.
