Explosives licences suspended in Haryana's Mewat area

Chandigarh, Oct 12 (IANS): Authorities in south-west Haryana's Mewat district have suspended the licences for procurement, storage, sale or disposal of explosive substances to curb illegal mining, an official said here Saturday.

Mewat Deputy Commissioner Vinay Singh suspended the licences given under the Explosive Substances Act, the official said.

This action follows the Supreme Court orders banning mining in the area.

The deputy commissioner also ordered the sealing of any stocks of explosive substances in the district.

"The action was taken after it was noticed that illegal mining was being carried out by some persons by conducting explosions to damage the hills, which is dangerous to human life, health and safety," the official said.
