Udupi, Mar 15: After public outrage over police inaction in the rape attempt case at End Point at Manipal near here on Saturday March 11 afternoon, the police have now registered the case against the accused for the second time.
As per the new case registered, the police have arrested Imran (22), a resident of the city and Ashiq (30), a resident of Mallar near Kaup here. Another accused Jakhir (20) is already in the police custody. However, the fourth accused Sandeep Shetty (24), a resident of Bannanje has been absconding.
As reported earlier, the police after arresting the accused on Saturday had left them after registering a petty case against them. Enraged by this, the police led by Bajrang Dal had protested the police action and had appealed SP to take action against the police personnel. Having studied the case in length, SP had suspended the ASI and had ordered transfer of inspector Moosa.
Thereafter, the police registered a new case against the accused and took them to custody. The police have already produced them before the court, which has in turn remanded them to judicial custody upto March 25.
