Mumbai, Oct 14 (IANS): A benchmark index of Indian equities markets Monday closed 77 points or 0.37 percent up as information technology (IT) stocks gained.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the S&P Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 20,534.61 points, closed at 20,605.46 points (provisional), up 76.87 points or 0.37 percent from previous day's close at 20,528.59 points.
The Sensex touched a high of 20,645.94 points and a low of 20,497.88 points during the trade so far.
The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) also made gains. It closed (provisionally) at 6,112.70 points, up 16.50 points or 0.27 percent.
Sector-wise, IT, technology, entertainment and media (TECk) and bank scrips gained.
However, capital goods, metal and fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) stocks declined.
The S&P BSE IT index gained 187.76 points, TECK index rose 81.98 points and bank index increased by 70.81 points.
Heavy selling was observed in capital goods index which was down 56.86 points. The metal index was also down 56.04 points and FMCG index ended 48.35 points lower.
