Congress seeks credit for cyclone management

New Delhi, Oct 14 (IANS: The Congress Monday sought to take credit for the massive evacuation of around one million people in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, following the accurate prediction of tropical cyclone Phailin.

Union Science and Technology Minister S. Jaipal Reddy claimed that the evacuation of one million people ahead of cyclone Phailin was the largest such exercise in the world, and said the United Progressive Allaince government had invested around Rs.750 crore in technological upgradation of the met department over the past years.

"These investments were made during the UPA regime ... None of us can be sanyasis (saints)," Reddy told reporters when asked why was he addressing the media over an issue related to his ministry from the headquarters of the All India Congress Committee (AICC).

"The prediction of the track and intensity of the cyclone was exact," Reddy said.

"Evacuation of around one million people in Odisha and Andhra Pradesh was a world record," the minister said.

The money invested was used to buy high-tech radars, computers and other equipment to improve the quality of weather prediction, said the minister.

According to the minister, the deaths, 16 in Odisha and one in Andhra Pradesh, were due to "pre- and post-cyclone accidents".

"It could have been due to a tree which fell or a wall collapse," Reddy said.

Asked why the government's disaster management was not up to the mark during the Uttarakhand floods, the minister said the situation in the hill state was different.

Thousands were feared to have perished in the floods which hit Uttarakhand in June.

"The Uttarakhand situation was a multi-dimensional disaster. The heavy rains coupled with breaches in dams and environmental factors resulted in the heavy casualty," said Reddy.

"But we could predict heavy rains 24 hours in advance," he said.

Minister of State for Home M. Ramachandran, who accompanied Reddy, congratulated the various agencies involved in the relief and rescue work.

A government claiming credit for disaster management is like a bird claiming credit for flying! It is expected of a government to secure the welfare of its citizens, it is the their job - the only job that they work for the benefit of citizens who elected them.

Only in India where we claim a "world record" for moving people to safety !

The Tsunami came unknowingly and suddenly which was a natural disaster.

The Merit of Congress in Tsunami was they didn't take foreign aid for Indians rehabilitation.

Uttharkhand was also a natural disaster unknowingly happened.

The goodness of congress was they did utmost for evacuations from the Uttharkhand. Of course AmulTea-Boy interfered and took credit of evacuations of Gujarati's only. Never mind.
Everybody has done for goodness during the natural calamities.
However, this Bharatiya Jaanuvaar Party criticized left and right to congress because in their filthy mouth comes only stinking smell of toilets.

Orissa is a non-congress government but Dr. Manmohan Singhiji gave all out support for a natural calamity in complete co-ordination in-between congress and biju janata dal.

In contrary to all those natural disasters/calamities, the Madhya Pradesh was a man made disaster. The Chief Minister of M.P., should resign instantly for failing to keep government machinery working for the devotees.
Lastly the Chief Minister of M.P has admitted lapse of management of Police. He blamed Police and didn't take responsibility for the failure in his administration.

SHIVARAJ SINGH CHOUHAN IS CAPABLE ONLY TO MAKE RALLY'S FOR AMULTEA-BOY MR. MODI.
THE MADHYA PRADESH CHIEF MINISTER SHIVARAJ SINGH CHOUHAN FAILED IN HANDLING TEMPLE'S DEVOTEES DISASTERS MISERABLY.

We should give credit to Meterological Department for taking appropriate precaution before hand...by giving suggestion to people from time-to-time. In case of Uttarkand disaster..UPA government completely failed. Why not UPA taken same credit on there fold. Whatever it may be all are safe. As always disaster fallen on poor people...lost there homes/properties and much more. Should come forward by NGO's to help them the most..in all ways. Main thing they have done to cut-off power..which avoided much disaster. Whatever it may should appreciate all the people who covered the incident in right matter..no doubt. Everybody co-operated well by providing food for the people..and even arranged to distribute same from neighbouring states. As it's risk zone..government already made place to accomodate people in A.P as well as in Orissa.

Should also take same initiative during assembling of people during temple festivals. It looks like in temple stampede it's work of some mischevious mongers created havoc amongst people...which is now increase in these days.

How they exchanged terrorists for release of flight due to poor foregn policy.Another phekhu himself brings western company to India and oppose FDI .?Dear my countrymen enough of politics in everything. This indeed a good work of able Governance.

This disaster management team was formed during Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the aftermath f Tsunami to tackle such incidents in the future. Over the years the successive Govt Upgraded it now doubt, but its not the brain child of Congress. There were many such national interests project initiated by NDA but UPA govt later only took interest in money making schemes. Atal Bihari Vajpaye then appointed Sharad Pawar who was in opposition , head of this committee acknowledging his work during the Lathur earthquake aftermath. The later govt did one good work that they dint suspend this committee just because it was started by BJP, thats all the good work done by congress. This desperate attempt by congress to claim this credit just says their desperate situation that they fear otherwise people may credit Vajpayee & indirectly BJP, that's all.

I do not know whether congress deserves the credit or not.But one thing I have observed is that there was good co-ordination this time between Orissa govt and the center and it wouldn't have been possible to minimise the damage and loos of life without central givernment's help.

Uttarkhand is also sucessful.Few thinks by sitting in some country makes politics out of everything without knowing ground reality and politics.May be just they think they support certain party gives them license to hate Congress ? No one has control over nature ! But my Country is so capable today they really done good job in both cases.Irresepective of which party it has done but the fact is it is true indeed a huge success.Bur this time Pheku CM dint get any chance to play politics here.May be supporter of this Pekhu CM still cant beleive in this great success story.

In politics there is no permanant enemy and friend.Oriissa CM is once came to power with the help of BJP only. Here core idea of saying is any one done it is our country. We should really see postive aspect of our country.Truth is indeed this credit goes to Centre And State governance.Afterall Orissa CM is not Phekhu. He is a gentleman and real good administrator. But wonder Pheku CM Supoorter cant digest this.Jai Hindh.Afterall supoorting congress is not non constitutional. It is better to be karsevak of one elected party who acts as per their election promise and has guts to put their own partymen behind the bar.Who has the guts to hang terorist.Sadly in India stiil people beleive those party who said will built temple and does not and talk they have iron man who surrendered to teririst.
