Cabinet approves panel to supervise Bhabali barrage

New Delhi, Oct 17 (IANS): The union Cabinet Thursday approved a three-member committee to supervise the Babhali barrage in Maharashtra in accordance with the Supreme Court directions of Feb 28, 2013.

"The committee will comprise one representative from the Central Water Commission, who will be the chairman, and one representative each from the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra," said a statement.

The apex court had asked the committee to supervise the operation of the Babhali barrage and ensure that Maharashtra maintains storage capacity of 2.74 TMC feet of water out of the allocation of 60 TMC feet given to the state for new projects under an agreement of October 6, 1975, between the two states.
