Kolkata rally to mark Netaji government's 70th anniversary

Kolkata, Oct 17 (IANS): Family members and followers of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose will participate in a rally Monday to commemorate the 70th foundation day of the Provisional Government of Azad Hind that he headed during the Second World War.

Established in Singapore Oct 21, 1943 by Indian nationalists-in exile, the Indian provisional government was formed with support from Japan. It was inspired by the ideas of Bose and was aimed at gaining co-operation of the Axis powers to free India from British rule.

Bose was its leader and the head of state.

The non-political rally will commence from Netaji's statue at the scenic Indira Gandhi Sarani (Red Road) in the central part of the city and halt at the Indian National Army (INA) Memorial, a stone's throw away from the statue.
