Capello vows to take Russia to 2014 World Cup quarters


Moscow, Oct 18 (IANS): Russia's football coach Fabio Capello said that his team has a chance to reach the quarterfinal stage at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

"Russia has not been at the World Cup for a long time, it has an appetite for it now. I want to lead Russia into the quarterfinals," Capello told reporters Thursday, reports Xinhua.

Meanwhile, the Russian Football Union (RFS) has started negotiating a new contract with Capello, RFS head Nikolai Tolstykh told reporters.

"The money (for coach's remuneration) has been allocated to the RFS budget," he said.

This week, Russia took first place in its qualification group and qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time in 12 years.

In November, Russia is to play friendly games against Brazil and Spain.
